Interpreting Forward 2030 is a project led by the community, supported by the Commission and facilitated by Dendros Group. It is important to the philosophy and design of this project to gather input from the community about their experiences, knowledge, and wisdom in order to help figure out how to increase the availability and quality of sign language interpreters. Data collection was conducted using multiple approaches to ensure that as many perspectives across impacted demographics were collected as possible. Transcript

The Community Engagement working group focused on collecting information from impacted communities, including Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing consumers; Deaf and hearing signed language interpreters; and key stakeholders.

We used this data to ensure that we were able to reach many different demographics and make sure that we had a diverse amount of perspectives to be presented. It also guided our goal to try to recruit specific populations for further information. Transcript

Major Themes from Collected Data

The primary goal of data analysis was to identify major themes and understand underlying experiences with interpreting as a whole. We wanted to understand what wasn’t satisfying about the experiences and what barriers existed in the field. Some of the themes are summarized below.
